How Craigslist, Google, Pho and SEO come together

Posted in About San Diego, baby talk with tags , , , , on July 29, 2010 by eternallylost

It seems like it’s been forever since I posted anything to this blog, not to say that nothing eventful or noteworthy has transpired. I’ve just been busy trying to “maintain” I guess.

We’ve bought quite a few baby items from Craigslist. Just picked up a Superyard XT in Birdland yesterday from an ad in Craigslist.

Where the hell in San Diego is Birdland you ask?

Even after 20+ years living in this city, I had to consult Professor Google (Maps) to learn that Birdland is the area between the 163 & 805 split, where Sharp Memorial, Sharp Mary Birch and Rady Children’s Hospitals are located. I’ll stop here and leave it up to Noah to film an episode of Wonderland on Birdland. I love that show!

What prompted this post was a coworker asking me how to get to Pho Joy in Poway. I couldn’t remember the restaurant’s name so I Googled “pho Poway” and got my answer.

I WAS surprised to see that my post reviewing Pho Joy appeared on the first page of my search results. OK, I wasn’t too surprised. After working in SEO for awhile, I tend to write in keyterms and phrases now.

It was nice to be able to verify firsthand that my search engine optimization skills are still applicable.

Cheers!

OMG You’re 5-months!

Today marks my little tater tot’s 5 months with us…hard to believe it’s been that long already. The 1 year mark is just around the corner it seems.

The Step2 floormats I ordered from BabyAge arrived yesterday and baby is wasting no time making use of them. She’s already been rolling over and back several times now; a feat that’s more difficult to do on an activity mat. The activity mats were so cool, but it seems their use was so fleeting. I’m thankful we recieved them as secondhand gifts.

The Step2 mats I ordered were a pack of four blue (no color options) interlocking 24″ x 24″ squares, which fits perfectly well in our tiny condo’s living room. If we ever get a house and/or need more coverage, like when baby starts walking, I can buy more sets as needed.

After like 2 weeks of searching online, not counting the prior weeks I spent obssessing over playmats in stores, I chose ones from Step2 based on raving reviews, cleanup ease, expandability, and price. BabyAge ended up being cheaper than even Amazon or even Babies R Us in this case even after paying 9.99 S&H.

Still debating on if I want to hold out until April when the Canon VIXIA HF S20 (32GB internal flash wih dual SDHC slots) and HF S200 (dual SDHC slots and no internal flash) are released or settle on another videocamera. Got a big event coming up and wanted to get the videocam at least a month prior to get comfortable with it.

Decisions decisions…

A baby is a great reason to buy new gadgets and other stuff!
